The Right To Stay
Because growing old should feel like coming home — not being sent away.
All over the world, millions of elderly people are being disconnected from their homes, families, and communities.
The Problem We Can’t Ignore
The Right To Stay
All over the world — especially in underfunded regions — elderly people are quietly being disconnected from the lives they’ve built.
In many countries, growing old means one of two things:
- Being placed into an elderly home, far from the people and memories that matter
- Or staying home, but without care, support, or human connection
These aren’t isolated cases. They’re the future of entire generations.
A Global Shift We’re Not Ready For
This is not just a care crisis. It’s a human dignity crisis.
We’re living through a massive demographic transition — and we’re not prepared.
- By 2050, 1 in 6 people globally will be over 65 — more than 1.6 billion people
- 80% of elderly people will live in low- and middle-income countries, where care infrastructure is weakest
- In Europe, more than 20% of the population is already over 65, with countries like Bulgaria, Italy, and Germany aging faster than their systems can handle
- In Bulgaria alone, over 50% of elderly people live alone, and fewer than 15% receive regular in-home care
What We’re Building
The Right To Stay is a nonprofit on a mission to make in-home care accessible to those who need it most.
We help elderly people stay in the homes they love — with the support, safety, and connection they deserve.
We do this by:
- Creating local care teams that serve elderly people directly in their homes
- Training and hiring caregivers from within the community
- Supporting families and neighbors who are doing their best with limited resources
Advocating for systemic change, so staying at home becomes the default — not the privilege
Why It Matters
Most people don’t want luxury. They want familiarity.
They want their own chair. Their routines. Their photos on the wall.
They want to feel safe — not exiled. Seen — not forgotten.
We believe every person deserves to age with dignity, in the place they call home.
This isn’t just a healthcare issue. It’s a social contract.
How You Can Help
This mission grows by connection. Just like care does.

Whether you’re in healthcare, tech, policy, design, or simply someone who cares — you belong here.
